COPPIN STATE UNIVERSITY (CSU) IS A HISTORICALLY BLACK, FOUR-YEAR LIBERAL ARTS UNIVERSITY OFFERING 23 UNDERGRADUATE MAJORS AND 11 GRADUATE-DEGREE PROGRAMS.
Coppin is comprised of the Honors College, School of Professional Studies, School of Graduate Studies, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Management Science and Economics, School of Education, and the Helene Fuld School of Nursing.
A fully-accredited urban, residential campus, the university serves Baltimore residents and students from around the world. As a member institution of the University System of Maryland (USM), Coppin has a unique mission, primarily focusing on the problems, needs, and aspirations of Baltimore City residents and those residing in the immediate metropolitan area.
The university has received numerous information technology awards, including the 2006 Computerworld Mobile and Wireless World "Best Practices in Mobile and Wireless" Award for Innovation and Promise, and U.S. News and World Report recognition as #19 on the magazine's list of top 50 colleges and universities nationwide with absolute wireless capability.
Additionally, Coppin fully operates and manages Rosemont Elementary/Middle School, a Baltimore City Public School, which once produced some of the lowest test scores on national tests in the city and state. Since Coppin assumed management of the school in 1998, Rosemont's test scores have risen to become among the highest averages in Baltimore City. Rosemont, which is no longer on the state's reconstitution list, became a Charter School in 2006.
Coppin also operates The Coppin Academy, a college preparatory high school located on the campus of Coppin State University. Academy students operate under strict academic guidelines and are exposed to highly-specialized academic instruction.
