FOUNDED IN 1866, TODAY TOWSON UNIVERSITY IS RECOGNIZED BY U.S. NEWS AS ONE OF THE TOP PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN THE NORTH.

Towson University is the second-largest public university in Maryland and the largest in Baltimore, enrolling over 17,000 undergraduates and 3,500 graduate students. But students never have to worry about getting lost in the crowd. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 18 to 1, Towson offers all the opportunities of a big school with all the intimacy of a small one.

Towson is nationally recognized for its programs in the arts and sciences, business, communications, fine arts, health professions, education and computer science. Students may choose from 63 undergraduate majors and over 60 master's, doctoral and certificate programs. Keenly attuned to the needs of both its students and the region it serves, Towson offers academic programs designed to prepare students for success in today's rapidly changing employment landscape and in fields where Baltimore-Washington area companies and organizations need them most.

The university places strong emphasis on service learning and civic engagement through internships, practice and course projects. There are many out-of-class experiences that allow students to form closer ties with classmates and faculty, including nearly 200 student clubs and organizations, NCAA Division I athletics and 40 intramural and club sports. Towson's Center for the Arts hosts more than 200 concerts, plays, art exhibitions and dance performances every year.

Towson University's graduate school offers 64 applied doctoral, masters and graduate certificate programs, serving more than 3,500 students. Degrees and certificates in areas such as reading, special education, environmental science, information security and assurance, nursing, instructional technology, accounting, human resource development, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and applied gerontology reflect how Towson responds to work force trends. Classes are taught by nationally prominent faculty who cater to working professionals; 73 percent of graduate students are enrolled part-time.

Courses are offered year-round, during the day, in the evenings and on weekends at Towson's suburban Baltimore campus and locations around Maryland. Towson is just a short walk away from restaurants, bookstores, movie theatres and the shops of Towson, Md. Downtown Baltimore is just eight miles away, and Washington, DC, is within an hour's drive.
