Get around Baltimore this summer with the MTA

Now that's school's out, you've finally got some free time to explore Baltimore. But wait, the Collegetown shuttle is also on vacation. Don't worry about how to get around town -- the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is always running.

While it may sound intimidating, navigating the MTA system truly isn't that hard. The first place to look is the MTA homepage, http://www.mtamaryland.com/. Here you can find information on the bus, lightrail, metro subway, MARC train and more. The homepage even has a tool that allows you to put in your starting place and your end destination; from there it will tell you the most efficient way to travel.

Making life even easier, Google Maps will also give you information on what method of public transportation to take. When getting directions, just click on the "By Public Transit" tab instead. Google will even tell you the next available bus or train that will take you to your destination.

Lastly, MTA is resonably priced. The prices for the MARC train vary, but for all other MTA services, one way fare  is $1.60. There are additional options for monthly or daily passes. MARC riders can pay for their tickets at Penn Station, while bus users can pay right on the bus with exact change. All you need to do is place the money in the machine next to the driver.
