NOMINATIONS DUE: Wednesday, February 20th, 2013
Award recipients will be notified on Monday, February 25th, 2013. All awardees must attend the conference on Saturday, April 6th, 2013. Awards will be presented at the end of the conference.
1) Faculty Award for Outstanding Service-Learning: This award recognizes the outstanding impact of one faculty member’s contribution to service-learning. The award winner will receive recognition at the conference and an award certificate.
Selection Criteria: Faculty and staff, community partners and students may nominate faculty for the award. Self-nominations are accepted.
- Extensive experience in developing and teaching a service-learning course or a course with a service-learning component. Evidence of innovative ways of employing a reflective teaching methodology to connect community service-learning with academic study.
- Evidence of efforts to reach out to other faculty to encourage and help them integrate service-learning into their courses.
- Demonstrates leadership that promotes community service-learning within one’s discipline or the college.
- Evidence of engaged scholarship, such as research, published materials, presentations on service-learning or community-based research.
2) Staff Award for Outstanding Civic Engagement: This award recognizes the outstanding impact of a staff member's contribution to civic engagement. Award winners will receive recognition at the conference and an award certificate.
Selection Criteria: Faculty, staff, community partners and students may nominate staff for the award. Self-nominations are accepted.
- Evidence that the staff nominee has gone beyond standard occupational duties in their role to their community in collaboration with a service-learning or civic engagement initiative.
- Evidence of efforts to reach out to other staff, faculty and/or students to encourage and help them integrate civic engagement or service-learning in their respective role.
- Demonstrates leadership that promotes civic engagement or service-learning within one’s college and seeks to meet community needs.
3) Undergraduate Student Award for Civic Engagement: This award recognizes the outstanding contribution and impact of undergraduate students working in a service-learning or civic engagement opportunity. Award winners will receive recognition at the conference and an award certificate.
4) Graduate Student Award for Civic Engagement: This award recognizes the outstanding contribution and impact of graduate students working in a service-learning or civic engagement opportunity. Award winners will receive recognition at the conference and an award certificate.
Selection Criteria for both undergraduate and graduate students: Faculty, administrators, staff and community members may nominate students for the award. Self-nomination is also acceptable.
- Nominees may be individuals or groups.
- All nominees must have been enrolled as at least part time undergraduate or graduate students in the fall of 2012.
- Evidence that the student nominee has gone above and beyond in their service to community in collaboration with a service-learning or civic engagement initiative.
- Evidence that the student nominee has demonstrated leadership that engages students in meaningful service and seeks to meet community needs.
5) Community Partner Recognition Award: This award recognizes the outstanding contribution and impact of community partners on student learning outcomes and course content of faculty partners. The award winner will receive recognition at the conference and an award certificate.
Selection Criteria: Students and faculty may nominate a community partner for the award. Self-nominations and nominations from agency staff will also be accepted.
- Demonstrated evidence of efforts to reach out to faculty and students to encourage and assist them in the integration of service-learning into University curricula. Demonstrated leadership that promotes and embraces service-learning within their organizations.
- Demonstrated excellence in the supervision and mentoring of service-learning students in meaningful service opportunities, and the development of reflection opportunities for students that connects real community needs with academic study.
Nomination letters should be no more than two pages in length and must specifically address the selection criteria. Please email your Nomination Letter and the required Nomination Form (located at the top of the page) by Wed, February 20th, 2013 to slcenominations@gmail.com.
