Describe the intern's responsibilities.
Sherryn’s internship exposed her to the fast-world that is newspaper journalism. As the Sentinel is a small newspaper Sherryn found herself taking on extensive responsibilities as an intern. She was asked to cover and write about stories from the world of entertainment including the new Kwik-E-Mart( Simpson movie promotion) in Bladensburg Maryland to hard-hitting public issue articles including the topic of public alcohol prevention in latin-based restaurants across the Wheaton area. She was also assigned editing duties as she was responsible for reviewing her own pieces as well as looking over some articles for other reporters. Her duties also included doing extensive research and interviews for the articles that she and others would write, and it was here that she found the heart of her internship experience.

Why the internship was successful.
Sherryn was ready to make a good impression on her third day of work. She hadn’t been there long enough to cement an image of a dedicated, and talented writer, in the mind of the big-wigs, and she was ready to do just that. Little did she know, she had already made just the kind of impression she had hoped for.
As an intern at the Sentinel in Rockville, Sherryn’s first article about Galaxy Billiards was a full-page spread, released for all to see on just her third day of work. Seeing that article, made the stress of a long commute and little sleep worth every minute.
The most meaningful experience Sherryn had while an intern, was meeting the host of the HGTV show “Outer Spaces” Susie Coelho who came to the Montgomery County fair to promote her room designs for Bank of America. Not only is Coelho Congressman Sonny Bono’s third ex-wife, but she is known as the first Indian supermodel in the world. Being an Indian-American herself, Sherryn found interacting with someone like herself who had found success inspiring. “Through my interview with her amongst the sound of rollercoaster rides and giggling pre-teens, I felt very confident in my own abilities as a first generation Indian- American to go very far in the career world as she has.” explains Sherryn.
The impression Sherryn made while she was an intern didn’t fade. Brian Karem, Editor-in-Chief of the Sentinel, told her he was so impressed with her work that she could come back anytime and write for him.
