ARTSCAPE

For three days every July, Artscape lands like the mothership in Mount Royal and spreads into the streets (where all manner of artists, artisans, and food, drink, and craft vendors hawk their wares), area art galleries (where local and student artists showcase some stunning and truly cutting-edge new work), and a series of stages (where local bands and superstars like Al Green, De La Soul, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and the Violent Femmes rock the house). The crowds keep getting bigger with each passing year, and it's sometimes tough to find a good vantage point at the more popular performances, but for a crash course in the best of Baltimore's art scene, you can't do much better than Artscape.
