BENJAMIN BANNEKER HISTORICAL PARK AND MUSEUM

o Benjamin Banneker was a true inspiration as he was an African American who was a self-educated scientist during the time of slavery. Born a free citizen, he still received little formal training and borrowed books to teach himself math and science. Perhaps most famous for publishing 6 almanacs, he first gained fame for creating a working wooden clock without any training and made great scientific impact in the worlds of astronomy and surveying.
