HAMPDENFEST

Because one enormous street festival a year just isn't enough for Hampden, the neighborhood hosts a sort of follow up to HonFest every fall. Hampdenfest takes itself just a little bit more seriously than HonFest (no big-hair contests), and it's designed to showcase local shops, artists, and musicians more than Baltimore-style outlandishness, but you'll find many of the same things here: Local bands rocking three different stages; food, drink, and merchandise stands lining the sidewalks; and lots of loud, boisterous locals packing the streets. For college students, it's a great way to kick off the year and start getting to know what the city -- or at least this part of it -- has to offer.
