EL SALTO

Mexican food wasn't meant to be fancy, hip, subtle, or upscale. It was meant to be served the way El Salto serves it: sloppy, simple, and straight from the oven, on plates so hot you could get third-degree burns just from looking at 'em. Nothing's overstuffed here, and nothing's overdone. The tacos are tacos. The burritos are burritos. The salsa is pretty much just ketchup with a little more backbone. But everything's fresh, crisp, and almost inexplicably tasty, and you'll walk away stuffed to the gills and having spent little more than you would have for a soggy bag of who-knows-what from Taco Bell. Just be prepared to follow up your visit with a little siesta, because a visit to El Salto is a trip to food coma city -- in the best possible way.
