CANTON
Canton is booming these days as the waterfront development along the harbor continues to head east. Centered on an old-timey town square dotted with a nice and eclectic array of restaurants and pubs, Canton also enjoys a reputation as a happening nightspot for collegiate revelers.
DUNDALK
Just minutes from trendy and expensive Canton, Dundalk will be the new hipster place on the horizon, offers Chesapeake Bay, waterfront charm
FEDERAL HILL
Thanks to widespread revitalization efforts, Federal Hill is exploding in popularity. Its location just a few steps away from the Inner Harbor doesn’t hurt, of course, but with its eclectic blend of quiet, classy neighborhoods, offbeat shops and galleries, and boisterous clubs and bars, Federal Hill’s own charms are many.
FELLS POINT
Fells Point still bears the look, feel, and character of the maritime center it started out as, but it’s also a positively jumping community of shops, restaurants and nightspots.
HIGHLANDTOWN
As downtown development continues to spread east, Highlandtown will likely become the next Canton. For now, though, it’s a mix of ethnic enclaves (Greektown) and blocks upon blocks of formstone-covered rowhomes occupied by dyed-in-the-wool Baltimoreans (it was the home of Tracy Turnblad in John Waters’s “Hairspray”), a new wave of immigrants, and young bargain hunters alike.
INNER HARBOR
The crown-jewel of Baltimore.
WEST SIDE
Not since the rebirth of the Inner Harbor has Baltimore seen a comeback like the one happening around the University of Maryland’s downtown campuses. Anchored by the newly reopened Hippodrome Theatre and featuring a wide variety of completely renovated apartment buildings and loft spaces, the West Side’s star is on the rise.
