- Once a somewhat insular neighborhood of born-and-bred, dyed-in-the-wool Baltimoreans, Hampden has undergone a renaissance in recent years as a rather stunning array of quirky-cool shops, galleries, restaurants, and coffee shops has cropped up along and around its main drag on 36th Street (known to locals as the Avenue).
