NEIGHBORHOODS
ELLICOTT CITY
The town's thriving historic main street is a delightful antidote to the McMansions and big-box stores in nearby suburbs. It's lined with the likes of Caplan's Antiques, the vintage clothing sop Discoveries, a body-piercing joint called Star Rocket, and the funky toys of Cosmic Comix. Area cuisine includes the pub food you might expect (at the Ellicott Mills Brewery) alongside the international flavors of Asia Garden and La Palapa. Many of the pubs are also fun places to stop in at night, and some host live bands.
Outdoorsy types will find a lot to love in the nearby Patapsco Valley State Park, a 14,000-acre expanse of hiking and biking trails, waterways, picnic sites, and camping grounds. For history buffs, there's the B&O Railroad Station Museum, located in the oldest railroad station in America.
