TOWSON

Goucher College and Towson University bookend Towson's central business district, and many of the shops, restaurants, and bars clustered around its roundabout cater to students. There are plenty of places to grab a cheap lunch, including chains like Subway and Ruby Tuesday as well as local favorites like Frisco Burrito, Sushi Hana, and the Charles Village Pub. The last of these is also a popular nightspot, of which there are a handful in the area, including the Greene Turtle, Souris' Saloon, and the Recher Theatre, where you'll find an impressive variety of shows by Baltimore bands and national acts like the White Stripes, Method Man, and Gomez.

Shopping opportunities abound in Towson, both at the enormous Towson Town Center mall and in the many strip centers around it. Right in the heart of the downtown area, you'll find a Barnes & Noble AND a Borders Books and Music, Trader Joe's organic groceries, Pier 1 Imports, and Storehouse Furniture. Across from the mall at the Dulaney Valley Plaza, there's a Record & Tape Traders, a Super Fresh supermarket, and a handful of small eateries. And just down Joppa Road sits Towson Place, an oasis of discount big-box stores featuring a Target, a Marshall's, and Staples.
