It may have started out small in the downtown dive now occupied by the Talking Head, but the Ottobar is now the biggest name in Baltimore nightclubs thanks to a seven-night-a-week schedule featuring up-and-comers from the local indie-rock and rap scenes (Cex, Ironboss, Liars Academy) alongside mid-sized touring acts like the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Kool Keith, and T-Model Ford. At the popular upstairs bar (for which there's no cover even on show nights), you'll find DJs and live jazz bands on some nights and an interesting crowd and great jukebox all the time. And the once-a-month Britpop dance party Underground (18 & over) is a total blast. Age restrictions vary for Ottobar events, so make sure you check their website or call ahead.
