CLUB CHARLES

The venerable Club Charles has been a cornerstone of the Baltimore bar scene for a long time, and it's not difficult to understand why. With its vaguely art deco decor, super-long downstairs bar, split-level design, loungey hidden nooks, and moody red lights running the length of it all, it looks the way a bar just should. And though it often gets pigeonholed (not entirely wrongly) as a hipster joint, the real truth is that you're not likely to find a more eclectic crowd than the one that lines the bar here on the best nights. There are certainly hipsters aplenty, but you'll also find businesspeople, theatergoers from the Charles Theatre (just across the street) and, occasionally, John Waters. It's classy, it's cool, it's got a great jukebox, and it's reasonably priced. What more could you want from a bar?
