PATTERSON PARK

Dubbed the "Best Backyard in Baltimore" by its neighbors, Patterson Park is one of the city's oldest and finest parks. Its pastoral rolling hills first opened to the public in 1853, and it has a rich history of protests, gatherings, and signature architecture, including its famed pagoda. There was a time in recent history when Patterson Park was a place to avoid, known more for its unseemly characters than its bucolic charms, but today Baltimore residents have reclaimed their "backyard" with running trails, playgrounds, playing fields, tennis courts, and pavilions for private parties. Festivals and music performances often take place on Pagoda Hill, and in the winter, you can hit the ice in the domed Mimi DiPietro Skating Center.
