FRANCE-MERRICK PERFORMING ARTS CENTER/HIPPODROME THEATRE

Built in 1914, the magnificent Hippodrome Theatre fell into disrepair as the once-bustling West Side of Baltimore underwent a slow, steady decline. In 2004, as part of a major redevelopment project aimed at reclaiming the area's past glory, it reopened as the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center, a palatial 2,276-seat showcase for traveling productions of Broadway hits like "Grease," "The Producers," "Hairspray," and, of course, "Phantom of the Opera."
